The Telugu remake of 96 may soon begin shoot in Kenya. According to various reports, the first schedule of shoot will last 15 days after which the team will shift to Vizag and Hyderabad.

Director C Prem Kumar, who returns as the director for the Telugu version too, told Silverscreen that team is still planning and they have not zeroed in on Kenya yet. As reported earlier, Samantha and Sharwanand will play Jaanu and Ram, the characters played by Trisha and Vijay Sethupathi in the original.

Dil Raju has bagged the remake rights and will be producing the film. Music for the remake is by violinist-turned-composer Govind Vasantha, who had also made the tracks for the original film.

The makers have also denied reports regarding changes in the script of the remake. Prem Kumar said earlier, “There are no changes in the core plot, but a few small changes have been made. Even as Dil Raju sir bought the remake rights, we decided to just replicate the same theme with few a nuanced changes to suit the Telugu audience.”

96, a love story about two people who meet at their school reunion years later, marked C Premkumar’s debut directorial. It released before Deepavali last year, and became a huge hit. Even though the film was telecast in channels after release, it completed its 100th run in the theatres. The film had its share of controversies, but found takers everywhere, and is now being remade in Kannada too.

Titled 99, Bhavana and Ganesh play the lead roles in the Kannada remake, set to be directed by Preetam Gubbi. 99 will mark music director Arjun Janya’s 100th film. Its cinematography is handled by Santhosh Rai Pathaje. The film is bankrolled under the banner Ramu Enterprises.

Meanwhile, Prem Kumar was recently awarded the Gollapudi Srinivas National Award for 96. About working on the remake, he told Silverscreen, “As I tell my crew, I am not remaking 96. I am merely reliving the experience. You can never be under pressure when you are enjoying something.”
