In a first, Writer Jeyamohan was also present at the event. In his blog, the writer explained the reason behind his decision to attend:

“I do not usually attend film related events. People like me do not have any significance in these events too. Most of the time, when events like this happen, I would be travelling and would not be able to attend. Anyway, at these cinema events only the stars are important. I don’t know what I will be doing there, but I’ll be there for the first look launch of 2.0″

He also revealed that Akshay Kumar’s role in the film will be similar to that of a Christopher Nolan film villain. “I’m waiting to see Akshay’s role onscreen,” Jeyamohan added.

He also said that 2.0 would be a ‘technological wonder’. “From all I’ve seen, this film is the pinnacle of technological advancement.”

Several first look posters of 2.0 were launched at the event. One features Akshay Kumar and Rajinikanth facing off against each other while another showcases Akshay’s unique look for the film. The posters garnered much acclaim from fans and predictably, set social media afire.

The launch event itself was much-talked about. Held at Yash Raj Studios in Mumbai and hosted by Karan Johar, the event’s highlight was an onstage discussion with the stars of 2.0.

3) The film will have a third part, director Shankar confirmed

4) Rajinikanth claimed that 2.0 would make Indian cinema proud

5) Rajinikanth feels that Akshay Kumar is the real hero of 2.0.

6) With Karan Johar as the host, the event wouldn’t have felt complete without a Kup of Koffee. Thankfully, Chitti obliged.

7) Editor Anthony revealed that he had to wear special 3-D glasses to edit the film.

In a surprise appearance, Salman Khan walked in to the event. He explained that ‘though he was not invited, he wanted to come and meet Rajinikanth’

Amy Jackson added some much-needed glam to the event.

While the rest of his peers treated this like it was a black tie event, Rajinikanth turned up in a gray sweat shirt, and some interesting spectacles.

The audio of the film will be launched in mid-2017, reports said.
