According to reports, he was offered a role in a Keanu Reeves-starrer. Speaking about it in a recent interview to TNIE, he cited the example of Bollywood star Amitabh Bachchan who played a minor role in the 2013 film The Great Gatsby, starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Tobey Maguire and Carey Mulligan, and said, “I don’t want to be promoted as an actor in a Hollywood film and end up doing a cameo. Big B who is a legend was talked about a lot when the news came out that he was in The Great Gatsby. But he was visible only for a small bit and it disappointed the fans.”

He said Hollywood films have Indian stars only to draw Indians to theatres and this is not a good enough reason to accept a role. He asked actors here to be careful not to take up such films.

Vikram was speaking about today’s release Kadaram Kondan, the film promoted as being on par with Hollywood standards. It is written and directed by Rajesh M Selva, co-starring Akshara Haasan, Abi Hasan, Lena and others. Vikram plays a double agent and an expert assassin in Malaysia, in the film packed with chase sequences, fights and action.

At the trailer launch this month, he thanked Kamal Haasan’s Raaj Kamal Films and Ravindran of Trident Arts for producing the movie, and said, “We know Kamal sir’s movies are unique, but this one will appeal at an international level, it’s a slick and stylish film. I’ve done a lot of challenging roles, especially in Dhruva Natchathiram recently, but this will be entirely different.”

The film was announced by Kamal in August 2018, and was shot in Kuala Lumpur for a month. It has music composed by Ghibran, cinematography by Srinivas R Gutha and editing by KL Praveen.

Meanwhile, work on Vikram 58 with Ajay Gnanamuthu has also begun, and he has Dhruva Natchathiram and Mahavir Karna in the pipeline.
