Vijay Sethupathi Plays A Drama Artiste In ‘Seethakathi’

Vijay Sethupathi will do what he knows best – play an actor in Balaji Tharaneetharan’s Seethakathi. The actor will reportedly play a drama artiste called Ayya in this film that hopes to chronicle the art and life of a stage performer. In a Deccan Chronicle interview, the director said that the film does not require any romantic interludes, and hence, a heroine was not required.

Speaking to the New Indian Express, Tharaneetharan sheds more light on the title of the film. “There’s a proverb called Seththum Koduthaan Seethakathi. When you watch the film, you’ll know why I named it so.”

Seethakathi was a Tamil scholar and saint in the 1650s. However, the director has said it would not be a biopic on his life. Instead, it will speak about the belief systems and values he tried to inculcate in the people.

Bankrolled by Passion Studios, the film went on floors last week and marks the actor’s 25th film.
