Vijay-Atlee’s ‘Thalapathy 63’ Launched

Actor Vijay Launches Music Director Devi Sri Prasad (Or DSP) USA Concert

Pre-production for Vijay’s next movie directed by Atlee, currently called Thalapathy 63, began today with a pooja. It has been officially announced that the shooting for the movie will start in January 2019.

Thalapathy 63 is said to be a crime-thriller, and is Vijay and Atlee’s third project together after Theri (2016), and Mersal (2017). Producer Archana Kalpathy will bankroll this project under the banner AGS Entertainment, and as with Mersal, AR Rahman will compose music, and GK Vishnu will be the cinematographer.

An official press release from AGS Entertainment announced that art direction will be handled by Muthuraj, editing by Vivek, stunts by Anal Arasu, and executive production by SM Venkat Manickam.

Details about the other cast and crew are yet to be announced, but sources suggest that Nayanthara might be the female lead for the movie.

Reports also say that Atlee and Nayanthara share a good rapport since their Raja Rani days, and that she might sign up for the film despite currently being a part of five other projects in different stages of production. Incidentally, Nayanthara and Vijay’s only movie together was Villu (2009) directed by Prabhu Deva.

While all announcements have referred to the movie as Thalapathy 63 (Vijay’s 63rd movie), this is yet to be confirmed too. Sources suggest that Aalaporaan Tamizhan, a song from Mersal, is the title being considered. If everything goes as planned, this movie will be the actor’s next Deepavali release.

Atlee, who began his career with the AR Murugadoss-produced film Raja Rani in 2013, with Arya and Nayanthara in the lead, has since worked only with Vijay. Mersal (2017) was one of the top-earners in Vijay’s career, and the first among his films to enter the Rs 200-crore club.

Meanwhile, Vijay’s Sarkar, which made Rs 30 crore on its day of release, has also crossed the Rs 200 crore mark, and earned over $ 1 Million in the US.  While the protests against the movie have largely died down, a case was registered against Vijay in Trissur today, following which four posters and a flex board were seized from Ramdas theatre.

The case, filed under Cigarette and Other Tobacco Products Act, by the Trissur Health Department, accuses Vijay of glorifying smoking in the film’s posters. Reports say that the distribution company, Sayujyam Cine Release, and the movie’s producers, Sun Pictures and Ramdas Theatre, have also been accused in the case.
