Many celebrities from Kollywood including fellow lyricists expressed their sorrow over his death :

Vijay Antony, with whom Annamalai has done most of his work with tweeted :

Vijay Antony told Times of India : “I had a brief chat with him only last week.I am still feeling depressed. I haven’t even slept properly from the time I heard the news. Only if someone has gone through a lot of difficult situations in their own life can they write such lines. I would say he was our ‘kutty’ Kannadasan. Even as a person he was very simple and disciplined. What’s hurting me the most is that he has left us at the time when industry was starting to embrace him”
