Vemal-Oviyaa Starrer ‘Kalavani 2’ To Release On June 28

Vemal and Oviyaa-starrer Kalavani 2 will release worldwide on June 28. The film, directed by A Sargunam, is the sequel of the 2010 hit Kalavani.

Oviyaa announced the news on Twitter yesterday. A source close to the film said, “All release issues have been sorted out, and the film will be out on June 28.”

The trailer for the movie released in April this year, revealing that it is a political satire. The story takes off from where the previous film left, and Vemal and Oviya are married now. Vemal also decides to get into politics against everyone’s wishes. Saranya Ponvannan reprises her role as Vemal’s mother in the sequel, and RJ Vigneshkanth will be seen as his friend. Ilavarasu, Ganja Karuppu, Vinodhini Vaidhyanathan and others have important roles. Ghibran is the music composer, cinematography is by Velraj, and editing by Raja Mohammed.

Oviya made her debut with Kalavani, which was popular for its comedy portions. It was also Sargunam’s first film, and he later directed Vaagai Sooda Vaa, Naiyaandi and other movies.

Kalavani 2 was announced in 2016, but faced delays because the original producer Nazir objected saying he had the rights to the movie. The shooting with Oviya and Vemal began by mid-2018.

Later, there was a stay on the film ordered by the Madras High Court following months of controversy between Sargunam and producer Singaravelan. Singaravelan had obtained the stay and filed a case against Vemal saying he owed him Rs 4.3 crore, which was borrowed to complete the actor’s various projects. The issue was cleared after Vemal met Singaravelan last month and signed an agreement saying he will work on two movies for the latter’s production house within 2019, in return for the money he borrowed. Details about these projects are yet to be announced.

The ban on the film was lifted in May by the Madras High Court.
