While there were rumours that the delay in release was due to some unfinished VFX work, the Tamil Nadu wing of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad filed a petition seeking a ban on the movie citing that one of its songs has lyrics that tarnishes the image of Hindu gods.

Uttama Villain, which is reportedly the story of an ageing superstar, has Kamal Hassan, Pooja Kumar and Andreah Jeremiah in the lead roles. It also features late director K Balachander, K Vishwanath, MS Bhaskar, Urvashi, Nasser, Jayaram, Parvathi Menon and Parvathy Nair in supporting roles.

Music director Ghibran’s work for the film has been well-received by critics as well as music lovers.
