The first teaser of Mammootty’s Malayalam movie Maamaankam is out. The actor also revealed the title of the film on Facebook.
Sajeev Pillai, a former assistant to filmmaker Adoor Gopalakrishnan, is making his directorial debut. The first schedule of the shoot has already started.
Mammootty will sport different looks in Maamaankam. Set in the Malabar region of Kerala, the film focuses on the festival of Maamaankam which was held every 12 years between 800 AD and 1700s.

Mammootty has played characters in period dramas earlier also, like MT Vasudevan Nair’s Chanthu in Oru Vadakkan Veeragadha and Pazhassiraja in Kerala Varma Pazhassi Raja.
Produced by Venu Kunnappilly, the final cast of the movie is yet to be finalised. Neeraj Madhav will be seen in a supporting role.
Mammootty has a lot of movies in the pipeline this year, including the biopic on late Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister, YS Rajasekhara Reddy.
