Suriya’s NGK Will Not Release This Diwali

Suriya At The Kadaikutty Singam Success Meet

NGK, starring Suriya, will not be releasing on Diwali this year, announced the film’s production house. The film’s official release date will be announced soon, said the statement by Dream Warrior Pictures.

Producer SR Prabhu had earlier told Silverscreen that every effort was being made to make sure that the film was ready by Deepavali.

A source close to the director, however, had informed that the film was likely to miss the Deepavali deadline. “There are many scenes that are left to be canned. It is not possible to do all that in a couple of months,” the source had said.

The film’s director, Selvaraghavan’s health was cited as the reason behind the delay. He had tweeted about a simple medical procedure he underwent and said that he would resume work in a couple of days.

A spokesperson for Selvaraghavan had reiterated the director’s claim and had said that he was recuperating well.

“It was not a planned delay but we will speed things up in the coming days to make up for it. We hope to finish shooting in a couple of months,” the spokesperson had said.

The last Selvaraghavan-directed film to release was Arya’s Irandaam Ulagam. His horror film, Nenjam Marappathillai, is yet to see the light of day. Efforts are on to secure release dates for the film.

Starring Suriya, Sai Pallavi and Rakul Preet Singh in lead roles, NGK is produced by SR Prabhu and SR Prakash Babu for Dream Warrior Pictures. Yuvan Shankar Raja is the music director. The audio release announcement will be made soon, the spokesperson told Silverscreen.

At present, Vishal’s Sandakozhi 2 has obtained approval from the release regulation committee of the TFPC for its release this Deepavali. Sarkar, starring Vijay and directed by A.R. Murugadoss, is also expected to release on the same date.
