Suriya Confirms His Role As SPG Officer In ‘Kaapaan’

Actor Suriya recently confirmed that he plays a Special Protection Officer, who is part of the Indian armed forces, in KV Anand’s upcoming directorial Kaapaan. He also confirmed that Mohanlal is a Prime Minister in the film.

In a Facebook live interview, Mohanlal and Suriya spoke about working with each other for the first time. While Mohanlal did not divulge details about the film, Suriya said that the reports about their characters were true. He also said that the film is set to release during a holiday weekend in August or September, and the exact date is yet to be finalised.

Suriya spoke about working with Mohanlal, “We have learned about acting by watching his movies. I was introduced to Malayalam cinema with Kilukkam, Kireedam, Spadikam and all his wonderful films. I take reference for my films from his work. Most actors know we are performing for the camera. But even if there is a magnifying lens right in front of his face, he will make it disappear.”

Mohanlal responded saying Suriya was loved by the people of Kerala, and they were happy Suriya was doing a film with him. When asked if he will act in a Malayalam film, Suriya said, “It will happen when the time is right. Before the end of my career I will do it to give back the love (from Kerala).”

Speaking about the film, Suriya said he plays an SPG officer entrusted with the safety of the Prime Minister and members of the PM’s family. It was earlier reported that Mohanlal plays actor Arya’s father in the film. Sayyeshaa, Boman Irani, Samuthirakani, Mayilasamy, Chirag Jani are also part of the cast.

Kaapaan is an action-entertainer, and is reportedly one of the most expensive films in Suriya’s career. The film is bankrolled by Lyca Productions. Harris Jayaraj is the music composer, Abhinandan Ramanujam is the cinematographer, and Anthony is the editor.

The movie originally starred Telugu actor Allu Sirish in an important role. However, Sirish exited the project because of a schedule clash with his other film ABCD.
