SS Rajamouli On Baahubali 2: “Only Prabhas Could Have Done It”

Speaking about the second part of his magnum opus Baahubali 2, director SS Rajamouli said he couldn’t have imagined anyone other than lead actor Prabhas in the role. The film’s audio launch was held on a grand scale last weekend, and was attended by several stars from the industry. The second part of the Baahubali series is set to release on 28 April.

According to a Deccan Chronicle report, Rajamouli says that Prabhas was part of the project even before he discussed it with him. “When I decided to make the film in such a grand scale, I knew what kind of effort and commitment was needed for this canvas. Even before I discussed the story with Prabhas, he was already in,” he said, adding that Baahubali: The Beginning dealt more with the characters’ establishment and that the real drama would come only in Baahubali 2: The Conclusion.

An IANS report also quotes him talking about their friendship as extremely close. “Show me one actor who can spend more than three years on a character he believes in. Prabhas and I became very close after we worked together for the first time in Chatrapathi, and we used to spend a lot of time together. Thank you Prabhas for being my friend,” he said.

Rajamouli said there was a possibility of Baahubali 3, but not in the form of a movie. He said, “May appear in the form of animation series, comic books, virtual reality shows etc, and hence the world of Baahubali will continue.”

Meanwhile, matching the awe expressed by his director, Prabhas told IANS that, if needed, he would have given seven years for Baahubali. “For Rajamouli, I would have even spent more than four years. I would have been ready to dedicate even seven years for him on the project,” he said.

The film also stars Rana Daggubati, Tamannaah Bhatia, Anushka Shetty, Ramya Krishnan, Nasser, and Sathyaraj. It is slated for an April 28 release.
