In the movie, Aggarwal is a mother who returns from Malaysia; the film traces her lonely journey to find her long-lost child. “It will be an emotional drama that showcases the nature of men from various walks of life,” the director was quoted as saying by Cinema Express.

The cast comprises actors such as Ganja Karuppu, Lollu Sabha Swaminathan, and choreographer Sandy.  The film has music by Dhina and cinematography by Venki Darshan. S Sivaraman is a lawyer-turned-filmmaker who has directed movies such as Kagitha Kappal and Solli Tharava. The first look of Thanimai was launched by producer G Dhananjayan in January.

Sonia Aggarwal started her career with the Telugu film Nee Premakai in 2002 before making her Tamil debut in Selvaraghavan’s Kadhal Kondein. Her most popular performances have been in films such as 7G Rainbow Colony and Pudhupettai – both directed by Selvaraghavan, whom she later married and divorced . She also had an important part in Thiruttu Payale, directed by Susi Ganesan, where she played a girl who waits in vain for her blackmailer-boyfriend.

The actress had stopped acting after her marriage in 2006. However, she made a comeback with Vaanam in 2011. She has been acting in almost all South Indian languages since then.
