Reports speculated that Lyca Productions, who are backing the big-budget Indian 2, have been worried about the film’s delay and the exceeding pre-production expenses. Similar reports in May said Lyca was considering backing out of the project but sources close to the production told Silverscreen that these were rumours, they had already finalised the budget with the director and there were no financial constraints.

The film was scheduled to begin in August after the shoot of Kamal Haasan’s reality show Bigg Boss 3. The team also planned to set aside 15 days for Kamal’s makeover before shoot. But it was said there were going to be further delays and Shankar will begin work on Mudhalvan 2.

A source told Silverscreen that talks were on with Vijay and nothing can be confirmed yet, “The film may not begin in the next one year at least. Indian 2 will definitely complete first.”

A report by Asianet News says that after reports about Mudhalvan 2 started doing the rounds, Kamal said the shooting for Indian 2 should begin as planned and he will be available for his portions. The film is likely to begin with the rest of the team in the first week of August and Kamal will join them later. Kajal Aggarwal stars as the female lead, and Anirudh Ravichander is on board for music.

Meanwhile, Vijay is likely to play the Chief Minister in Mudhalvan 2, and Arjun Sarja, who starred as the one-day CM in the previous film will play the villain. Vijay is currently busy with shoot for Bigil and will begin work on Thalapathy 64 with director Lokesh Kanagaraj after this wraps up.
