Santhanam’s Next Titled A1; First Look Released

The first look of Santhanam’s new film titled A1 or Accused No.1 released yesterday. It is directed by newcomer Johnson, the winner of Naalaiya Iyakkunar Season 4. Hindi and Telugu film actor Tara Alisha Berry makes her Tamil debut as lead of this film. Release is expected during summer this year.

A1’s first look shows a handcuffed Santhanam. He is seen on a busy street with the spotlight on him, with a carefree expression. Hours later, the second poster released featuring him with a broken handcuff.

A1 is a romantic entertainer set in North Madras, director Johnson said, as per a Cinema Express report. “It is an out and out North Madras film. Santhanam sir hasn’t done a role like this in his previous films. The film has an interesting story and it does not solely rely on its comedy.”

The team began shoot in October last year, and 90 percent of it is over. A ToI report quotes the director saying that the film has situational comedy parts, and the audience will be able to get the story in 10 minutes. Santhanam plays a man from north Madras and Tara Aisha Belly is his lover from a brahmin family.

“Santhanam’s Saro is the kind of guy who is ever ready to solve others’ problems. Since I’ve lived in north Madras, I was able to tell Santhanam the kind of body language and style of talking that he has to adopt. And he learnt those mannerisms really quick. The story is based on people and incidents I’ve witnessed. We shot the film in live locations.”

Cinematography for the film is by Gopi Jagadeeswaran. Music is by Santhosh Narayanan, who recently worked on Santhanam’s Server Sundaram, a project delayed because of financial constrains.

Santhanam’s Odi Odi Uzhaikanum, directed by Manikandan of Kanna Laddu Thinna Aasaiya fame, is also delayed. His film Mannavan Vanthanadi with director Selvaraghavan recently faced legal trouble when one of the co-producers claimed all rights to the film and prevented a third party ownership. Selvaraghavan reportedly kept the project on hold and moved to work on Suriya’s upcoming NGK.
