‘RRR’ To Be A Pan Indian Film, Says Director Rajamouli

SS Rajamouli At The 21st Gollapudi Srinivas National Award

Director SS Rajamouli’s upcoming film RRR will be made as a pan-Indian film, along the lines of his previous Baahubali series. The director spoke about it at an event in the US.

“The movie is made on a large scale,” said the director. Though the interviewer kept nudging him, asking if the movie was a fantasy, he politely declined by saying, “Please don’t ask me any more questions about the movie.” The story of the film will cater to a pan-Indian audience, he confirmed.

Starring Ram Charan and Jr. NTR, the movie, made on a rumoured budget of Rs 300 crores, is being produced by DVV Danayya. “There are already great expectations from the film with the Nandamuri fans, Mega fans and all moviegoers expecting something out of the ordinary. I promise I will make sure no stone is left un-turned from my side in that regard,” Danayya had said during the movie launch in November last year.

The shoot for the movie began in the same month. Speculations are that the film is based on Ramayana, with Ram Charan as Rama and Jr NTR as Ravana. The female leads in the movie have not been finalized. There were reports about Keerthy Suresh and Priyamani being approached for the role.

However, latest reports suggest that Alia Bhatt is likely to star in the film. “Since her debut in Hindi cinema, Alia has been keen on starring in a Telugu film. She found the offer to be part of RRR, opposite NTR, irresistible, and so, although she has a slew of Hindi films in the pipeline, Alia has agreed to be a part of the project,” a source said to CE.

Ajay Devgn is rumoured to have a cameo in the movie.

Rajamouli, whose Baahubali 2 released in April 2017 and became the highest grossing Indian film, has retained most of his team from that movie for RRR. K.K. Senthil Kumar is the cinematographer, Sabu Cyril is the art director, and M.M. Keeravani is the music composer. Kotagiri Venkateswara Rao, who regularly collaborates with the director, is the editor for the movie. And the director’s father, Vijayendra Rao, is the screenwriter.
