Ranveer Ching Returns: New Ad-Film By Rohit Shetty For The ‘Desi-Chinese’ Cuisine Brand

Ranveer Ching Returns, an ad-film starring Bollywood actor Ranveer Singh essaying the role of the desi Chinese avatar with a few Native American elements, ‘Ranveer Ching,’ was released on 19 August, for the Capital Foods brand ‘Ching’s Secret’. The five-and-a-half minute ad is directed by Rohit Shetty of Singham fame, and it features Tamannaah Bhatia in a role reminiscent of her character from Baahubali (2015).

The ad film begins in a dystopian setting, where amidst ruined buildings and rubble, there are many who go hungry, craving for what they love – Ching’s Secret noodles. Tamannaah Bhatia, in white clothes from Baahubali, reprises her role of the warrior princess who protects the common (hungry) people of the city. Forty seconds into the ad, Ranveer Singh enters the scene in a leather jacket and a Native American headgear, with the song ‘My Name Is Ranveer Ching‘ from the older ad in the background. Things begin to look up, as many watch Ranveer bash up the evil overlord and salvage the city from further ruin.

At the end, noodles return to the city and so does happiness. Ranveer saves the city, is called a hero, and gets the pretty girl whose midriff occupies half the screen space in the ad. Similar to that of many of Shetty’s films, Ranveer spouts cheesy dialogues laden with innuendos in a bid to woo his ‘lady love’.

The ad marks Ranveer’s foray into marketing, having joined the brand headed by Ajay Singh as a Marketing Partner. The makers, before the release of the ad, spoke of the intention behind the ad. “The Ching’s audience is a really smart, young and cool one. And instead of boring you with another ‘bhookh lagi hai, khaana do’ ad with moms and kids – we’d rather entertain you! We’re just having some fun – not trying to change the world – this is our max mad tribute to Mad Max with a Bollywood twist. It’s got all the ingredients of a masaaledaar blockbuster including Gaana, Heroine ko pataana, Villain ko bajaana, mazedaar khaana – all with a Desi Chinese tadka,” said Ajay Singh in an interview with Economic Times.

The ad-film’s music is composed by Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy, with lyrics by veteran lyricist Gulzar and choreography by Ganesh Acharya.
