Ram Gopal Varma announced on his birthday yesterday, his decision to turn actor with the upcoming movie Cobra. Varma, who co-directs the movie with Agasthya Manju, plays an intelligence officer in the film.
The director took to social media to share the news. While doing so, he brought out his wry sense of humour on display and wrote “I wouldn’t mind if you don’t bless me.”

The movie is said to be a biopic on someone considered the most dangerous criminal. Although the details of the person have been kept under wraps, it is rumoured to be based on Mohammed Nayeemuddin, who was killed in a police encounter in August 2016. Cobra will be made as a Hindi-Telugu bilingual and features newcomer KG in the lead. The movie will be financed by DPR under the banner of RGV Gunshot films production.

According to RGV, Cobra is the story of a ‘rowdy sheeter turned naxalite turned police covert agent turned gangster’ who chose to rule in anonymity while the likes of Dawood Ibrahim and Chhota Rajan hogged the limelight. Nobody knew about his existence until he died.
RGV’s announcement has come a week after his latest film Lakshmi’s NTR hit theatres. The film follows the life of Telugu Desam Party (TDP) founder and former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister NT Rama Rao, and the changes in his political and personal life after his second marriage with Lakshmi Parvathi.
The movie reached theatres after a long battle with the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) and Election Commission (EC). The director had even called a press meet, which he cancelled at the eleventh hour, to protest against the CBFC for refusing to watch his movie citing the violation of model code of conduct for the elections.
