The film is a political thriller, with Trisha as the lead. She returns to the genre after 2016’s Kodi, where she played a character with negative shades. Paramapadham Vilayattu is written and directed by K Thirugnanam, and stars Manasvi – last seen in Imaikaa Nodigal – as Trisha’s daughter.

In Paramapadham Vilayattu, Trisha plays a doctor who gets embroiled in a political controversy while treating a high profile opposition party leader called M Chezhiyan.  Actor AL Azhagappan is the antagonist who is Chezhiyan’s party member waiting to become his successor.  Nandha Durairaj plays Azhagappan’s son and Richard, Vela Ramamurthy, Chaams and others have supporting roles.

The trailer of Paramapadham Vilayattu suggests that Trisha’s protagonist is a strong girl next door who is inadvertently caught in a political fight between two rivals.  In one of the  first scenes in the trailer she refuses to allow Azhagappan to turn off the cameras on the hospital floor where Chezhiyan is admitted, a seeming reference to late Tamil Nadu chief minister Jayalalithaa’s hospitalization in the months leading to her death. Trisha’s admiration for J Jayalalithaa is well-known, and she has earlier also expressed her interest in working on a biopic of the leader.

Trisha released a video to promote the trailer  this morning, in which she said., “This is a very special film for me and it is my first political thriller. The film has been predominantly shot in a forest, and features lots of action scenes. We had a lot of fun shooting for this project.”

In an interview with Deccan Chronicle, K Thirugnanam, the director said: “Trisha has done action and horror movies in the past. But Paramapadham Vilayattu will project her in a new dimension…Her scenes are not the typical action blocks; they are more of brainy and sharp feats.”

Major portions of the film were shot in a forest area in Yercaud, and Trisha’s action scenes were choreographed by Stunner Sham. The music for the film is composed by Amrish, cinematography is by J Dinesh and editing by Pradeep Raghav.
