The official list of films which will be screened at the Cannes Film Festival was released on Thursday, and no Indian film has made it to the list. The prestigious film festival will begin on May 11. 49 films will be screened at the festival in various sections, including Competition, Out of Competition, A Certain Regard, and Special Screenings.

However, Gudh, a Nepalese language film by Saurav Rai, a student at the Satyajit Ray Film and Television Institute in Kolkata, has been selected to compete at the Cannes Cinéfondation section. Every year, Cinéfondation selects short films made by film schools across the world. and screens them in a section running parallel to the Official Selection of the Cannes Film Festival.
The opening film of the festival is Woody Allen’s Café Society, a drama set in the café culture of 1930s America. The film stars Kristen Stewart and Jesse Eisenberg. Also, for the first ever time in the history of Cannes, the Palme d’Or winning film will close the festival on May 22. The Palme d’Or or ‘Golden Palm’ is the highest prize awarded at the festival.

Canadian filmmaker Xavier Dolan’s It’s Only the End of the World, starring Léa Seydoux and Marion Cotillard, will be screened in the Competition section. The film revolves around a terminally ill writer who returns home to tell his family about his impending death. Veteran director Jim Jarmusch’s Paterson, featuring Adam Driver in the lead, is another top listed films at the festival, about a bus driver and a poet. Pedro Almodóvar’s Julieta, Dardenne Brothers’ The Unknown Girl, Olivier Assayas’ Personal Shopper, and Sean Penn’s The Last Face are other favourites.
