Two Nayanthara Films Likely To Release In August

Nayanthara Satrring Imaikkaa Nodigal Movie Stills

August is an important month for Nayanthara. After giving an impressive performance in Aramm, the actress is gearing up for the release of Imaikkaa Nodigal, directed by Ajay Ganamuthu, and  Kolamaavu Kokila, next month. In both the films, she plays the central character.

Though there is no official confirmation, several reports suggest that Imaikkaa Nodigal will be releasing on August 24, while Kolamaavu Kokila – where she plays a drug peddler – will be releasing on August 10.

Imaikka Nodigal is an emotional thriller that focuses on sibling love. Apart from Nayanthara, the film also stars Atharvaa and Anurag Kashyap in pivotal roles. Vijay Sethupathi too has a 15-minute cameo. Her other film, Kolamaavu Kokila is directed by debutant Nelson Dhilipkumar. The film revolves around Kokila, played by Nayanthara, who’s forced to smuggle cocaine (Kolamaavu) because of her strained familial background. As an organised drug cartel begins to unravel, Kokila finds herself deep in the nexus. A dark comedy with edgy music from Anirudh Ravichander, the film also stars Saranya Ponvannan, Yogi Babu and Rajendran.

Incidentally, it is for the first time that two of Nayanthara’s films are scheduled to release in the same month. It assumes significance since both the films are headlined by a female lead. Moreover, Kolamaavu Kokila will release along with Kamal Haasan’s much-hyped Vishwaroopam 2.

But according to distributor Tirupur Subramaniam, two back to back films will not work against Nayanthara as long as the films are original and engaging. But will releasing a film along with Kamal Haasan make market sense? Subramaniam says, “It doesn’t matter if it’s a Nayanthara or a Kamal film, the script is the star of the film. The best content will grab the attention of the audience.”

But film critic Sreedhar Pillai says on the first day, the star film will get a bigger opening. “Content will lead from Day 2. By the time the first show is over, the opinion starts building in,” he says.

Nayanthara is currently busy with Ajith’s Viswasam, Chiranjeevi’s Sye Raa Narasimha Reddy and Aramm 2 directed by Gopi Nainar.
