Nawazuddin Siddiqui has admitted to being traumatised, especially in the last year and a half, after two police complaints were filed against him. Speaking to Mid-Day about how these cases have left him reeling, the actor said that this is the price he has to pay for being famous.
“Once you become successful, people try to attach their names with you and create controversies to gain their 15 minutes of fame. That’s what happened with me too. I was dragged into these cases for no fault of mine. I look back and feel sad for the people who did this,” he said.
In January last year, Siddiqui was charged under section 354 of the IPC for allegedly assaulting a 24-year-old woman over parking space at his residential society.
Another case came up in October last year, when the wife of his younger brother filed a complaint against him alleging that he kicked her in the stomach when she was three months pregnant.
Reacting to these cases, Siddiqui declared that he’s not a “robot” to be able to brush these allegations aside easily. “When people try to drag my name into something that I haven’t done, I do get traumatised. But, in the end, I’m aware that I’m not in the wrong and that’s why I am not left with a feeling of guilt.”

The actor, who was last seen in MOM starring Sridevi Boney Kapoor, is currently shooting for Munna Michael with Tiger Shroff. He will also be seen in Partition writer Saadat Hasan Manto’s biopic, directed by Nandita Das.
“I always try and find roles that will allow me to show my acting abilities,” he said, “I make a conscious effort to not repeat myself as I’m scared of getting stereotyped. Thankfully, I’ve been offered varied characters so far.”
