Actor-director P Samuthirakani’s Nadodigal 2 held its audio launch on September 19 at Prasad Film Labs. And, despite the previous night’s downpour and resultant traffic jams, the venue filled up pretty soon.

Samuthirakani, whose last directorial in Tamil Thondan (2017) did not fare well at the box-office, seems confident about Nadodigal 2‘s success. He tells the gathering in a bittersweet tone that he decided to team up with actor Sasikumar after eight years, following the death of Sasikumar’s cousin Ashok Kumar. “The things my thambi messaged me a few minutes before he decided to end his life nudged me to team up with Sasi and make the movie,” he said.

At the event, the theatrical teaser of Naadodigal 2 and two songs from the film were screened. The film looks like a political drama, and differs from the storyline of Naadodigal, which was about friendship. The movie reportedly deals with a lot of topical issues, because it is being made by ‘SamoogaKani’, as Sasikumar referred to the director.

One song (Varalaaru Engaldhu) has a bunch of students questioning the Government’s actions while the other (Aana Vardha) is about the plight of transpeople.

Stunt Silva received praise from the entire crew, including Anjali for making the sequences striking, yet not too taxing for the artistes. He mentioned that there was one particular sequence in the film that would be spoken about.

Anjali and Athulya Ravi are the two female leads in the film. Apparently, debut actor Bharath also doubled up as the caretaker of the two actresses, following Samuthirakani’s instructions.

The background score and songs are by Justin Prabhakaran, whose compositions in Dear Comrade were hugely appreciated. Lyricist Yugabharathi said that “Samuthirakani never told me the situation for any song. He’s the only one in the industry who narrates the story after getting us to write the lyrics!”

In the teaser, Sasikumar is seen delivering strong lines and getting into brawls. “I am only a puppet for what Sago (Samuthirakani) writes and experiences. I just followed his instructions,” he said. “I drove a Sumo in Nadodigal; now, I’ve upgraded to a bus. Don’t expect me to drive a lorry in my next film, I really can’t” he quipped.

Samuthirakani also said that the characters in the film are based on people we have all seen in life. The team completed the shoot in a single schedule of three months in Madurai. The movie is expected to hit the screens soon.
