Mohan Raja has mentioned earlier that he would like to work with Vijay again after their 2011 film Velayudham. Speaking to The Hindu recently, Jayam Ravi said, “They’re very much in talks, definitely. They’re like friends. Vijay anna is interested in working with my brother, and likewise for Raja as well. They regularly catch up and talk on the phone. If any script comes up, they will come together.”

Mohan Raja told Silverscreen it’s too early to speak about the film with Vijay. He said, “My focus now is totally on Thani Oruvan 2, which is in the scripting stages. I am planning some bigger things for the film, and it will take me atleast a month to reveal more details.”

Thani Oruvan 2 is the highly anticipated sequel of the 2015 film, his most successful collaboration with Jayam Ravi. Mohan Raja announced the sequel right after the original released. In December 2015, Jayam Ravi confirmed that the director was working on the script, and in August 2018, on the third year anniversary of the film, he said the sequel was on track.

Mohan Raja recently tweeted that he got a call from director Ram saying the expectations were high for the sequel.

Jayam Ravi will reprise his role as Mithran IPS in the film, and reports speculate that Mammootty is in talks for the role of the antagonist, made popular by Arvind Swamy in the original, and Sayyessha may take over the role that Nayanthara played. Hiphop Tamizha Aadhi, whose music for the original is still popular, is expected to join the sequel too.

The film was initially planned as Jayam Ravi’s 25th movie, but is now likely to be his 26th. The actor is currently gearing up for the release of Comali on August 15, and has a film with Lakshman under production.

Meanwhile, Mohan Raja’s film with Vijay is unlikely to happen before 2022 as Vijay has Thalapathy 64, and following this, he is likely to work with Shankar on the sequel of Mudhalvan 2.
