Director Mohan Raja is busy with script work for Thani Oruvan 2, the highly anticipated sequel of the 2015 film and his most successful collaboration with brother Jayam Ravi.

Mohan Raja tweeted that when working on the script for the sequel, he asked his assistant directors if they would meet people’s expectations, and they replied saying “200% Sir”. Just then, he got a call from director Ram who said that he watched Thani Oruvan once again and that it was great work. He then asked him to work as hard and carefully on the sequel. Raja shared this with the quote, “Passion will win”.

Ram said he was also waiting for the sequel.

Mohan Raja told Silverscreen that he would be ready with more updates by the end of the month. The director announced the sequel right after the release of Thani Oruvan in August 2015. In December that year, Jayam Ravi confirmed that Mohan Raja was finetuning the script, and in August 2018, on the third year anniversary of the film, the director said the sequel was on track.

While Jayam Ravi will reprise his role as Mithran IPS, details about the rest of the cast are yet to be known. Reports have speculated that Mammootty is being considered to play the antagonist, made popular in the original by Arvind Swamy who essayed the character of Siddharth Abhimanyu, and Sayyessha may take over the role that Nayanthara played. Hiphop Tamizha Aadhi, whose music for the original is still popular, is expected to join the sequel too.

The film was initially planned as Jayam Ravi’s 25th movie, but it will now be his 26th. It is likely to begin after the actor completes his other projects. A report by In.com also mentions that the film’s producers AGS Entertainment are going slow as they are busy with Thalapathy 63 and don’t want to work on another big film at the same time.

Meanwhile, Jayam Ravi’s film with director Lakshmanan went on floors in April this year, and latest reports say that he plays a farmer in the movie. He is also gearing up for Komali by director Pradeep Ranganathan, co-starring Kajal Aggarwal and Samyuktha Hegde.
