Nayanthara To Play DC In ‘Minjur’ Gopi’s Directorial Debut

Nayanthara in Seethakathi

Aspiring filmmaker Minjur Gopi Nainar, who was previously involved in a public spat with AR Murugadoss, will make his directorial debut soon. The filmmaker has roped in Nayanthara for his women-centric film. The film will also feature the two boys from the much-loved Kaaka Muttai from last year.

Sources have confirmed that the first schedule of the film has been completed, with the shooting done in and around Chennai. Nayanthara’s role is that of a District Collector who delves into the water problems in her jurisdiction. The story of the film is vaguely similar to that of Kaththi – the film that continues to be a bone of contention between Gopi and Murugadoss.

Back in 2014, Murugadoss was accused of plagiarism by Gopi. But it was dismissed by the court due to lack of evidence. Gopi alleged that the story of Murguadoss’s Kaththi was copied from his script, Moothakudi. Gopi claimed to have met Murugadoss thrice to discuss his script. “I have known Murugadoss for over a year and a half and had narrated the story (of Moothakudi) to him. Eventually, when the shooting for Kaththi began, I kept hearing rumours about the plot and I was shocked at the similarities with the script I had narrated to Murugadoos. That is when I lodged a complaint,” he told Silverscreen when the issue surfaced.

Gopi alleged that producer Vishwa Sundar was the biggest evidence as he claimed he was present when the story was being narrated to Murugadoss. The issue turned murkier when publicists of actor Vijay and Murugadoss claimed that they had never met Gopi before. Eventually, Gopi withdrew his defamation case against Murugadoss, citing it as one of the ‘legal proceedings‘ he did not want to disclose.

Leaving the past aside, Gopi’s upcoming film also features Sunu Lakshmi, who has acted in films like Sengathu Bhoomiyile and Touring Talkies, and Ramachandran of Sathuranka Vettai fame, as part of the cast. The film’s technical crew includes cinematographer Om Prakash, National Award-winning art director Lalgudi Ilayaraja, and stunt choreographer Peter Hein.

The film is produced by Kottapadi J Rajesh, under the banner of KJR Studios.
