Kayamkulam Kochunni Likely To Release In Tamil As ‘Malaikallan’

Kayamkulam Kochunni will release in Tamil as Malaikallan. The title is a tentative one, said Madhan Karky, who has been tasked with writing the Tamil dialogues for the production.

The team is trying to get the rights to the film title. The original Malaikallan was based on a story by Namakkal Kavignar Va Ramalingam Pillai, and filmed on actor MG Ramachandran and Bhanumathi. It was the first film to secure the President’s Silver Medal for Best Film in Tamil. The now-defunct Pakshiraja Studios secured the rights to Ramalingam’s story. The Kayamkulam Kochunni team will have to secure a No Objection Certificate from the current owner of the movie title before they can announce it officially.

Like Malaikallan, Kayamkulam Kochunni features a Robin Hood-type figure who loots from authority on behalf of the people.

Through a press release, Karky shared details about the film. Since the central character (played by Nivin Pauly) is a commoner, the team has decided to keep the dialogue unique.

“We have decided to maintain unique lines, which are neither too old or completely contemporary. There is a huge responsibility to make sure that the Tamil audiences don’t feel as though they were watching a dubbed movie.”

Karky is also in charge of writing the Tamil lyrics for the film’s songs.

Starring Nivin Pauly, Priya Anand and Mohanlal in important roles, the film is directed by Rosshan Andrrews and written by Bobby and Sanjay. The trailer for the film was released recently and has garnered mostly positive reviews.
