Kaththi Protests Continue

Protests against actor Vijay’s upcoming Kaththi continue in Tamil Nadu, despite Lyca Productions’ Subhaskaran efforts to clear the air. Several Tamil outfits believe the producer has business ties to the Sri Lankan President Rajapakse.

A group of protestors were arrested by the police outside the hotel where the movie’s audio was launched yesterday. Waving placards and shouting slogans against the film and its stars, the protestors – mostly students –  camped at the entrance of the Leela Palace. After several warnings, the police arrested the group and took them to a police station near the hotel. No case has been filed against the protestors yet.

Following this incident, the event proceeded with tightened security. Those invited had to go through four levels of security checks before being allowed into the venue. Earlier this year, students in Chennai also staged protests at the launch of the movie Pulipaarvai and its alleged anti Eelam content.

Actor Vijays, Neil Nitin Mukesh, Samantha Ruth Prabhu and AR Murugadoss partcipated in the audio launch along with music composer Anirudh Ravichander. This album marks the debut of Eros Music and is Soundarya Rajinikanth’s first music album as well. The event proceeded without incident thereafter.
