An FIR has been filed against TV presenter-comedian Kapil Sharma and actor Irrfan Khan, who own flats in the DLH Enclave in Mumbai’s Goregaon area, by the Mumbai police after a Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) officer filed a complaint against them and three other flat owners for illegal constructions within the building.
The complainant, South-ward sub engineer, Abhay Jagtap alleged that 15 flats in the building, including those of Sharma and Khan, violated rules. All 15 flats have been served BMC notices for the violations.
The FIR has been filed under section 53 (7) of the Maharashtra Regional Town Planning Act (MRTP), 1966, which deals with prosecuting flat owners for not complying with notices against unauthorized constructions. If convicted, the accused might face a jail term varying from one month to three years, and a fine ranging from Rs. 2,000 to 5,000.

Earlier, Kapil Sharma had created a controversy by tagging Prime Minister Narendra Modi to a Twitter post claiming that a BMC official had asked for a bribe of Rs. 5 lakh from him, for the construction of his office. In response, BMC claimed that he had flouted norms in his Versova office building and his apartment in suburban Goregaon. The comedian has allegedly built his office over a 4,000 square feet area, with another floor currently under construction on the ground-plus-one property. Technically, this goes against the rules of the BMC, considering the area is located close to the mangroves. It is also alleged that portions of the forest was cut for Sharma’s construction.
