Kangana Wants To Play The Lead In Chetan Bhagat’s Film Adaptation of One Indian Girl

Actress Kangana Ranaut has expressed an interest to play the lead character in Chetan Bhagat’s One Indian Girl. After reading the manuscript, the actress impressed with the lead character, called up Chetan Bhagat and told him that she wanted to play the role whenever the film was made into a film.

“Kangana is an icon, one of the finest actresses today. Stories and scripts mean a lot to her. She is known for her take on feminism and honest opinions, and for her to praise my book and want to do the film is a huge compliment. I am really thankful to her for joining me,” Chetan Bhaghat told ToI

One Indian Girl, Chetan Bhagat’s attempt at writing a story from a female perspective, is listed as a feminist fiction. The book, supposedly, questions the regressive attitude the society has towards women. It follows the story of an intelligent, successful girl named Radhika Mehta.

The book will be launched on 1 October by the actress herself. Bhagat added that there were several issues in the book that Kangana related to. The struggles of a contemporary woman who is forced to compromise on things for her career is all too familiar for Kangana, he said. Kangana hopes to start shooting the film adaptation of the book by the end of 2017.

Meanwhile, Kangana has a packed year ahead with many projects under her belt. It was recently reported that she was in talks over a movie with Sanjay Leela Bhansali alongside Shahrukh Khan. She also has a movie with Ritesh Bhatra in the pipeline.

The actress is currently working on the historical biopic, Jhansi Ki Rani. Directed by Ketan Mehta, the movie is based on the warrior queen, Rani Lakshmibai. In addition to this, there is Rangoon, a period romance drama directed by Vishal Bharadhwaj and Simran directed by Hansal Mehta.
