Recently reports speculated that the producer will be buying the rights of the film for Rs 150 crore, the highest this far for any Rajinikanth film. Speaking to The Hindu Tamil he said, “We don’t know who spread the false news. This is not true. The production house of Petta has not yet announced the start of distribution procedures. But people have begun speculating and spreading rumours already. This will surely affect the film’s business and again I did not buy the  rights for the film.”

The film’s promotions will begin from December 3rd, with 2 tracks from the film releasing on the day and the next as part of the promotions. With the shoot of the film wrapped up ahead of schedule last month, the team is currently busy with the post production.

Petta is bankrolled by Sun Pictures. The film stars Rajinikanth, Trisha Krishnan, M Sasikumar, Simran, Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Bobby Simha, Megha Akash and Sananth. The music for the film is composed by Anirudh Ravichander.

The film’s title can be loosely translated to mean territory. Will Rajinikanth then play once more a man who is the saviour and protector of his territory? If so, then it is in line with the roles he has essayed in Pa Ranjith’s Kaala and Kabali. But, the milieu in which Petta unfolds and the space Karthik Subbaraj’s films occupy in Tamil cinema, will ensure that the film is different.

Reports suggested that much of the film has been shot in the North East. Specifically, Darjeeling, Shillong and Uttar Pradesh. The  film which is likely to release for Pongal 2019, will lock horns with Ajith Kumar’s Viswasam directed by Siva.
