Ike Rubbishes Reports Regarding MGR Biopic; Says He Is Yet To Cast Actors For MR Radha Biopic

Director Ike Radha, who is in the process of making a biopic on his late grandfather MR Radha, has cleared the air regarding the project. Multiple reports suggested that the director was making a biopic on former Chief Minister MGR and that he had cast Arvind Swamy and STR in the role of MGR and MR Radha, respectively. Talking to Silverscreen, Ike said “I’m not making an MGR biopic.” As announced by the director last year, he is working on a biopic of MR Radha.

Regarding the casting, Ike said: “I haven’t decided on the cast yet”, labelling reports in the media as “baseless and speculative”. He added that it was too early to talk about the project.

MR Radha was known for his villainous roles. In real life, he was the antagonist in the infamous incident where he shot MGR during the shooting of a movie. Subsequently, he shot himself too. However, the lives of both actors were saved, though MGR lost his original voice.

Ike made his directorial debut in 2017 with the horror comedy Sangili Bungili Kadhava Thorae. Featuring Jiiva and Sri Divya in the lead, the movie performed moderately well at the box office.

Towards the middle of last year, the director announced that he would be helming a biopic on MR Radha. “Unveiling untold stories of my legendary grandfather ‘Nadigavel’ M.R.Radha in a Film which I hope I do justice to as a grandson & more importantly as a fan,” he wrote on Twitter.

The director was also quoted saying in an India Today report that he planned to showcase the yesteryear actor’s ideologies and the stories known only to the immediate family. “Many have showcased him as the bad guy, but he was also a doting father. These stories are only known to  close family members. In my film, I’d showcase his ideologies, which I feel should be told to the world,” he had said.
