I am an ‘Ezhil Artiste’: Soori

Recommended

Among the comedians in the Tamil film industry, Soori has perhaps had the most number of film releases this year. A fact that seemed to delight him no end. At a promotional event for Vellaikara Dorai, the actor revealed that he was glad to finally receive recognition for his work. “Like every other artiste, I had my share of struggles, pain and disappointment. Many people have been pivotal in my rise here…one of them is director Ezhil. He has made it a point to cast me in all his films lately, and it is a matter of much personal pride for me. He doesn’t take on actors just like that, and that is why I like to call myself an ‘Ezhil’ artiste,” he declared.

Soori, who is over 35 films old now, added that he doesn’t harbour ‘unrealistic expectations’. “Every artiste fosters dreams of becoming the lead, becoming a hero. I haven’t had that wish yet. The fact that I have reached this phase in life is a very big thing indeed. I don’t want to aim for something which looks unreachable, and let go of what I already have.”
