Gayathrie Sankar Wins India Film Project’s 50-Hour Film Making Challenge

Gayathrie Shankar who is known for her performance in Naduvula Konjam Pakkatha Kaanom, recently director a film for India Film Project. It won an award in the 50-hour film making challenge.

Talking about signing up for the competition, she says in an IFlicks report, “I stumbled upon the opportunity with IFP on internet, and I immediately signed up. The theme of the festival was to create a content and deliver it in less than 50 hours after we are given our upload link.”

Prominent directors like Sudhir Mishra, Milan Luthria and R.S. Prasanna were part of the jury. She says “The title of my film is Shit Happens. It has a run time of six minutes. We built it around the theme of prevention better than cure, and it revolves around a daily wage worker who works at a construction site.”

Her assistant Maaya Azhagan was cast in the lead role. She says, “He immediately agreed. I also asked him to bring one of his friends along to help us make the film. He plays a pivotal role as well.”

About the process of filming, she says, “We had less time, so the silhouette shots that you see in the video, were shot on a mobile phone. We submitted it on time, and in a couple of weeks, we were glad to know that we won the competition.”

Despite this win, Gayathrie does not intend to take up direction as a full-time job. “Before this, I had penned another script based on events in an airport. Due to budget and permission constraints, I couldn’t go ahead with it. I am happy with acting as of now.”

Gayathrie currently awaits the release of Seethakathi, Chithiram Pesuthadi 2 and Super Deluxe.
