Former Minister Kapil Sibal Will Write Shorgul’s Lyrics

Former Union Minister Kapil Sibal has written two songs for the Bollywood film Shorgul, starring Jimmy Shergill and Ashutosh Rana, according to a report from The Hindu. This is the Congress leader’s second foray into writing film lyrics.

The music video of one of the songs ‘Tere Bina’ was launched on Saturday, marking sitar player Niladri Kumar’s debut as a music director. The song has been sung by Arijit Singh.

The second song is reportedly set for a dance routine, with some calling it an ‘item number’. However, Sibal refused to divulge details on the song, “I don’t wish to speak much about it. You will get to hear it once it’s released. I’m sure you will see it’s not the kind of item number you imagine,” he said.

Co-directed by Jitendra Tiwari and Pranav Singh, Shorgul is set in Uttar Pradesh, and explores the theme of intolerance created by religious, social, political, and economic prejudices.

Sibal has previously written a love song for Bandook (2013) and worked with AR Rahman on a studio album.

Shorgul is schedule to release on 24 June, 2016.
