The first-look posters of several under-production Malayalam films were released on January 1. This includes the debut feature film of Anoop Sathyan, son of veteran filmmaker Sathyan Anthikkad, and Priyadarshan’s big budget period drama Marakkar: Arabikkadalinte Simham.

Anoop’s film, a romantic comedy which has Suresh Gopi, Shobana, Dulquer Salmaan and Kalyani Priyadarshan in the lead roles, is titled Varane Aavashyamund (Groom Wanted). The film is co-produced by Dulquer Salmaan under his banner Wayfarer Films. The film’s shoot was wrapped up in the last week of December.

Marakkar: Arabikkadalinte Simham is centred on the 16th century warrior Kunjali Marakkar who rebelled against Samoothiri, the ruler of Malabar, and fought foreign invaders.

Mohanlal plays the central character in the film which is co-produced by his home banner Aashirwad Cinemas. The film releases in five languages on March 26, 2020. The supporting cast includes Manju Warrier, Suniel Shetty, Arjun Sarja, Siddique, Pranav Mohanlal and Kalyani Priyadarshan. Cinematography is by Thiru, and sound department is handled by Resul Pookutty.

Dulquer Salmaan’s Kurup, directed by Srinath Rajendran, is a crime drama centred on a real life fugitive, Sukumara Kurup. In the first look poster of the film that was released yesterday, Salmaan is in a suave avatar at an Indian airport, perhaps taking off to a hideout abroad.

“Starting the new decade with a new look. Here’s a glimpse of how we have reimagined the infamous Kurup,” wrote Dulquer Salmaan on his social media profiles, sharing the poster.

Another first look poster that released on January 1 is of Maniyarayile Ashokan, directed by Shamsu Zyba and produced by Dulquer Salmaan, which has Anupama Parameswaran and Gregory Jacob playing the lead roles.
