Devi 2 Teaser Review: When Two Spirits Collide

If there was just one supernatural being to deal with in Devi, you get double the fun in Devi 2, directed by Vijay. Ruby makes a comeback, but joining her this time around is Alex, who takes over Krishna’s (Prabhudeva) body. Tamannaah watches on in horror as two supernatural beings invade her life.
You get enough indication of this even in the opening scene of the teaser, where Prabhudeva (Krishna) morphs into someone else (Alex). As always, like every film by director Vijay, this one has lush visuals (cinematography by Manush Nandan), and the scene of action seems to be an arresting looking bungalow seemingly cut away from civilization.
Kovai Sarala makes an appearance towards the end, and pronounces the fact that there are two peis, not one, in case you had not figured that out by then.
The film is co-produced by Ishari Ganesh, who is fresh from the success of the superhit RJ Balaji-starrer LKG, and Trident Arts R Ravindran. Devi 2 also stars Nandita Swetha and Jagan, and music is by Sam CS.

Vijay had two middling releases in 2018 – the supernatural bilingual drama Diya, starring Sai Pallavi and Naga Shourya, and Lakshmi, based on children and dance. Diya was criticised for taking a very simplistic view of medical termination of pregnancy, and making it a moral issue rather than one of choice. The film marked Sai Pallavi’s Tamil debut, and was hugely looked forward to. The film released as Kanam in Telugu. Lakshmi focussed on a hugely talented young dancer whose single mother is against her dancing. But, she finds a mentor in Prabhudeva and dances her way to glory.

In 2019, he has his hands full with Devi 2 and GV Prakash-starrer Watchman. He’s also been signed on to helm one of the Jayalalithaa biopics, starring Kangana Ranaut as the late Tamil Nadu Chief Minister.
