‘Bigil’ Update: Vijay Turns Singer For AR Rahman

Actor Vijay has sung a track called ‘Verithanam’ for his upcoming Atlee directorial Bigil co-starring Nayanthara. The song is composed by AR Rahman and has lyrics by Vivek.

Archana Kalpathi, the creative producer of the film, announced last morning that a big update awaited Vijay fans. At 6pm, she shared the poster with pictures of Rahman, Atlee, Vivek and Vijay at work.

Vijay has previously sung ‘Google Google’ from Thuppaki for Harris Jayaraj and ‘Chellakutti’ from Theri for GV Prakash. He was also supposed to sing for AR Rahman in Sarkar, but the plan did not materialise. ‘Verithanam’ from Bigil is his first song with Rahman. Other details are yet to be known.

Meanwhile, the shoot for the film is nearing completion and reports say that huge railway station sets for the climax scenes have been erected at Prasad Studios in Chennai. The pre-release sales of the film have already crossed Rs 220 crores, the highest for any Vijay film yet. The theatrical rights have been bagged by Screen Scene Entertainment, and overseas rights by XGen Studio and United India Exporters.

The title and first-look of the film released on June 22, confirming that Vijay plays a double role, Bigil and Michael. Bigil is speculated to be a north Chennai gangster and fisherman, and Michael will have four different looks showing his transformation from a football player to gangster and then coach of a women’s football team.

Nayanthara’s role has been kept under wraps. Varsha Bolamma, Indhuja, Kathir, Jackie Shroff, Vivekh and Yogi Babu are others in the cast.
