Vijay starrer Bigil ran into a plagiarism row when K.P. Selvah filed a suit against the makers. He claimed that Bigil violated the copyrights of a story he had registered with the Writer’s Association. In a press statement, Bigil makers said today that Selvah originally sought “an order of injunction restraining the shoot and release of the movie Bigil.” Counsels for director Atlee and the producer, AGS Entertainment, argued that there was no cause of action (meaning there’s nothing in the case for the court to intervene), for filing such a suit in court.

Even as the makers’ made their case in the court the writer’s lawyer announced that he would withdraw the case. “The Plaintiff K.P. Selvah backtracked and filed an application to withdraw the suit itself with liberty to file a fresh suit,” the statement read. The court, though, allowed the complainant to withdraw this suit, declined permission to file a fresh suit on the same issue again. The case stands dismissed.
“In times, when almost all of the big movies face plagiarism issues, this verdict rings out a strong warning bell to all who attempt to hog limelight using such big movies and stars(sic),” the makers said in the statement.
