‘Andhadhun’ Crosses The Rs 300 Crore-Mark In China; Becomes The Third-Highest Grossing Indian Movie

Tabu And Ayushmann Khurrana Promote Andhadhun

Sriram Raghavan’s Andhadhun, which released in China three weeks ago, has crossed the Rs 300-crore mark in the country. This makes it the third-highest grossing Indian film in the country.

According to trade analyst Taran Adarsh, the crime thriller featuring Ayushmann Khurana, Tabu and Radhika Apte, was now eyeing the $50 million mark.

Only Dangal and Secret Superstar stay above Andhadhun now.

Actors Tabu and Ayushmann took to social media to share the news.

In her post, Tabu labelled the success ‘destiny’s child.’

News regarding the movie’s China release floated around last month. It was announced that the movie, in which Ayushmann played a blind pianist, would release in the country as Piano Player. This is Sriram Raghavan’s first film to release in China.

Andhadhun was co-written by Sriram Raghavan, Arijit Biswas, Pooja Ladha Surti, Yogesh Chandekar and Hemanth Rao. The story is about a pianist who becomes involved in the murder of a former actor. According to Kevin Tang of Tang Media Partners, the Chinese company that has released the movie in the country, Andhadhun was the first Indian thriller to release in the country.

Indian movies have been increasingly popular among the Chinese. From 3  Idiots and PK to  Dangal and Secret Superstar, Hindi films have set the Chinese box office ringing. Small budget films such as Hindi Medium and Hichki were also successful in the country.

Shah Rukh Khan’s Zero is the latest film to be screened in China. Despite a dismal performance in India, the film was selected as the closing film at the Beijing Film Festival held from April 13 to 20. The actor also visited the country as part of the screening.

Last year, Aamir Khan-starrer Thugs of Hindostan released in China; though some Indian films do better there than in the home market, this film tanked both in India and abroad. It made just about Rs 33 crore in China, despite lavish promotions, and brought Aamir’s dream run at the China box office to a halt, after the super successful Dangal and Secret Superstar.
