89th Oscar Nominations: More Room For Diversity And La La Land

The 89th Academy Award nominations were announced late last evening (6:48 pm IST) with Damien Chazelle’s La La Land winning 14 nominations, including for Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Director, and Best Picture.

In contrast with the lack of diversity the Academy Awards has shown in the nominations for the last two years (which triggered the hashtag #OscarsSoWhite), this time the nominations include several non-Caucasian artists, such as Dev Patel, Octavia Spencer, Denzel Washington, Mahershala Ali, Viola Davis, Naomie Harris, and Ruth Negga, to name a few. 

The Oscars will be hosted by American television host Jimmy Kimmel and telecast live on February 26 at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood. The live telecasting in India will be from 7 am IST onwards.
