A Small Show: The Aadama Jaichomada Press Meet Report

Silverscreen goes to the Aadama Jaichomada press meet

We arrived at the press meet of Aadama Jaichomada just in time to hear Badri reveal his ideology. When it comes to making films, that is. “I want to make super comedy movies. The kind that gets screened on television channels over and over again. I want my films, especially the comedy scenes, to enjoy the cult status that Goundamani’s jokes do now.”

Badri was also pretty open about the kind of people he makes movies for. “I’m not Gautham Menon or Mani Ratnam,” he declared. “My sensibilities, if you can call it that, are not like theirs. I make films for the Rakki and Parangimalai Vetri audience…the one who pay forty rupees to go forget his troubles. And that’s my life’s mission – to make these hardworking people forget everything and laugh for a good two hours. I think I’ve achieved that with this one.”

Karunakaran, who debuts as a hero with Aadama Jaichomada, could not attend its promotional event and was greatly missed by everyone. We know this because people talked about it. On-stage. First to say this out loud was director Badri. He apologised profusely for the absence of his lead stars, Karunakaran and Vijayalakshmi. “Both are busy shooting for other films. They badly wanted to be a part of this, but were not able to.” Also feeling a little lonely was Bobby Simhaa. The actor considers Karunakaran his best friend and was a little dejected at his absence. He said, “the reason I agreed to come onboard was because of Karuna. When Badri sir informed me that he was signing on Karuna, I was over the moon. And so when Badri sir requested me to do a role here, I immediately agreed.”

Sean Roldan has composed music for Aadama Jaichomada and fought back jet lag to appear for both the audio launch and the press meet of the film. Balaji Venugopal, who plays a vital role in the movie, pointed this out to us and said, “recently, only two people have come in all the way from the States to attend the audio launch. One was AR Rahman and the other is Sean. In some time, we will have to keep all our events in the US if we want Sean to attend.”

Apart from scoring music, Sean has also written a song for this film. “I come from the family of the great writer Sandilyan. He was my maternal grandfather and was a very important presence in my life. The song that I’ve written can in no way be compared to his work and shouldn’t be. It’s a light number and needed some fun lyrics and I obliged. Please don’t expect too much from this,” he warned everybody.

The film has been tentatively scheduled for a September 19 release. It has been awarded the U/A certificate and has also received tax exemption.
