Singer Vaikom Vijayalakshmi has gained partial eyesight, following years of intensive treatment. Vijayalakshmi told Onmanorama, that she was able to see a hazy image of people and objects now. ”The predicament is not completely curable but I can see shades of people or objects now. Though my vision is not very clear, I can see more light and a hazy image.”

The 35-year-old Vijayalakshmi was born visually impaired. She rose to fame with the song ‘Kaate Kaate’ from the Prithviraj-Mamta Mohandas starer Celluloid. This was followed by ‘Kaikottum Kanditila’ from Oru Vadakkan Selfie.
Vijayalakshmi is considered to be something of a prodigy. The singer did not receive formal music training, but has managed to learn more than 100 ragas on her own. She has also composed several devotional songs.
In March 2017, Vijayalakshmi will marry music composer Santhosh. The duo got engaged last year.
