A popular South Indian actress who appears primarily in Malayalam movies was sexually assaulted on Friday night by her former driver (Soni) and his accomplices. The attack took place while she was being driven from Thrissur to Kochi by her current driver (Martin) who allegedly had prior knowledge of the attack.
The office of the Director General of Police in Kochi confirmed that the actress was attacked by the two men, her former driver ‘Pulsar’ Soni and the current driver Martin. The crime was reportedly motivated by the actress’ decision to fire Soni as he is an accused in a murder case. The crime is said to have been masterminded by Soni, who later pulled Martin in as an accomplice.

According to the police, while driving to her Kochi home from the shooting spot, the actress’ vehicle was assaulted by a masked gang near Angamaly. Martin had prior knowledge of the attack, and made no move to help her. Following this, the actress was forcibly taken to a nearby van and sexually assaulted. The van was in constant motion, and the assailants also took photographs of the actress. They eventually left her at a secluded spot near Nedumbassery, Kochi.
The actress subsequently filed a complaint at the Nedumbassery police station, following which Martin has been arrested. An investigation has been launched into the incident, and the hunt is on to find the remaining the culprits. Meanwhile, the actress is said to be undergoing a check-up at a nearby hospital, and is in “deep shock”, according to police sources.
