Malayalam actor Jayasurya’s upcoming film, Captain, will reportedly feature 75 football players as part of the cast.
The film, a biopic on former India football captain VP Sathyan, has Jayasurya playing the lead role along with Anu Sithara, Siddique, Deepak Parambol, Renji Panicker and Nirmal Palazhy.
Speaking to The Times of India, director of the film, Prajesh Sen said, “Close to 8,500 players from various clubs across the state had applied for the audition. We conducted a camp and selected 700, out of which 75 footballers will be seen playing in various matches in the film.”
Jayasurya had reportedly devoted three months of his time to get in shape for the role of a former football player. The movie will not just focus on his game, but also on the people around him. The first schedule of the shooting began last weekend at Kozhikode, and the team will soon head to Chennai and Kolkata for other portions.

Since the film will show the captain’s life in different stages, Jayasurya will sport three different looks. Actress Anu Sithara will play his wife. In a recent interview, she said that her role is more than just being the football captain’s wife. “I think it’s a role that could have gone to an experienced artiste. So, I am excited that they have considered me. Nevertheless, I am also tense because it’s a performance-oriented role and I have to work hard to do justice to the character.”
