Dakini Trailer: A Story About Four Grannies And A Crime Lord

Four nannies and a crime lord take up the majority of the screen time in the trailer of Dakini. One woman goes to the extent of challenging a thug in the trailer that is otherwise underlined by humour.

As a movie talking about elderly people, the age-related jokes are obviously hard to do away with. But what distinguishes this movie is that the characters here, rather than considering themselves misfits in today’s world, appreciate the changes that have come about.

“If only we had this thing called WhatsApp when we used to date,” says an old lady who can hardly bring herself to pronounce ‘WhatsApp’ correctly. The talk about love gives way to Pauly Valsan romancing Alencier Lopez. They go for movies and have ice creams together. She even takes him on a bike ride through the city on a Bullet.

Actors like Indrans, Saiju Kurup and Aju Varghese serve as comic sidekicks. Ironically, Dakini – the fictional character from the children’s story ‘Mayavi’ has only a fleeting appearance towards the middle of the trailer.

Chemban Vinod Jose plays the role of the crime lord – the antagonist in the movie. Jose, whose last release was the prison-break drama Swathanthryam Ardharathriyil, also awaits the release of Goli Soda 2 in Tamil.

Dakini also stars Sethulakshmi as one among the four elderly women. The actress, who rose to prominence after playing the role of Indrajith’s mother in Left Right Left, has already had four releases this year. She also has a role in the Biju Menon-starrer Padayottam which is currently playing in theatres.

With the tagline ‘Old, Wicked and Lovable’, Dakini is reminiscent of the 1995 movie Vrudhanmare Sookshikkukka – a comedy starring Jayaram, Dileep, Harisree Ashokan and Khushbu that spoke about the events unfolding at an old age home.

Distributed by Friday Film House, Dakini is directed by Debutant Rahul Riji Nair.
