Lissy and Priyadarshan married in 1990. Soon afterwards, the actress decided to give up acting to focus on her personal life. After 25 years of marriage, the couple approached the divorce court in March 2016. Ever since their separation was made public, the former couple have been the target of many rumours. The alleged bitterness between the duo spilled out into the open when Lissy filed domestic violence charges against Priyadarshan. After a long legal battle, an amicable settlement was made. Priyadarshan transferred the ownership of the preview theatre Four Frame Entertainment and Dubbing to Lissy; following which the divorce was finalised.

Lissy revealed that the road to divorce was often ‘fierce and uncivilized’. “In recent times all celebrity divorces, from Hrithik and Sussane to Dilip and Manju to most recently Amala and Vijay all have been mutually agreed divorces. I am sure it also must have been painful to those couples but whatever differences they may have had, they all decided to respect each other. Ours was the only exception were it was often fierce and uncivilized battle on and off the courts until a compromise was reached at the Honorable High Court Chennai. Perhaps the ugliness of our divorce proceedings says all about the kind of marriage we have had.”

Lissy also confessed that she is ‘relieved now’ and thanked her family and friends for their support. “Anyways I feel relieved now. This is the end of a long and often very difficult road. All of us can now move on. I thank all my lawyers, friends and well wishers for their unconditional  support and prayers. I thank those friends in the media who has been kind  with their words.I am grateful to both my children for all their love affection and support. Above all  I thank God Almighty.”

Priyadarshan, on the other hand, is yet to comment on the issue. However, in a March 2016 interview to popular Malayalam magazine Grihalakshmi, Priyadarshan did reveal that he still respects Lissy. “I know that irrespective of whatever has happened, she still respects me. It was just a problem of ego. My house still bears the same name- Priyadarshan-Lissy. I know she still respects me.”
