An eight-year-old minor from Jammu’s Kathua district was abducted, held hostage in a temple, drugged, repeatedly raped and finally murdered to scare the Bakerwal community out of the village. What followed after the brutal act was a concerted effort to obstruct justice. Bribes were paid, evidences destroyed, people were intimidated to cover the heinous crime that took place in January this year. Film personalities, Opposition parties and people in general have expressed shock and demanded justice for the eight-year-old. Expressing outrage on social media accounts might perhaps be considered an easy way to react to the crime, but at moments like this, staying silent is also not an option.

Every child deserves to be protected, to learn, to play, to be loved and nurtured. They are the future! A crime against a child is a crime against the people. #JusticeforAsifa

Imagine what goes through the mind of an 8 yr old as she is drugged, held captive, gang raped over days and then murdered.
If you don’t feel her terror, you are not human.
If you don’t demand Asifa get justice, you belong to nothing.

It’s moments like this when a clear choice must be made.
We can come together as a people to protect the lives and rights of our women & children
We can allow people to put personal agendas above law & humanity
What kind of nation do We want to be? #Justice #Kathua #Unnao

How many more children like baby Asifa will be sacrificed at the intersect of religion & politics? How many more children will have to suffer unimaginable crimes before we wake up? I’m disgusted. It’s time for swift action. We owe it to Asifa and to humanity. #justiceforAsifa.
