Box Office Round-Up: Decent Opening For Fukrey Returns; Theeran Adhigaram Ondru Crosses Rs 50-Crores In India

The past week witnessed three major releases which, sadly, turned out to be average grossers. The Fukrey boys returned with no fresh take, Nivin Pauly’s first straight Tamil film released, too, revealing that he’s just as good in Tamil cinema as he is in Malayalam films.

Here’s a look at the films’ performance at the box-office:

Fukrey Returns

Zafar (Ali Fazal), Choocha (Varun Sharma), Hunny (Pulkit Samrat), and Lali (Manjot Singh) are back, the street smart boys who wreaked havoc in 2013’s coming-of-age film Fukrey. The sequel also marks the return of the dreaded gangster from the first film, Bholi Punjaban played by Richa Chadda.

The film has had a fairly decent opening, earning Rs 8.10 crores. The weekend proved to be better, with the film earning Rs 11.30 crores on day two. Trade analyst Taran Adarsh states that on Sunday, the film earned much more than its opening and the official numbers will be up soon.

Sathya

Directed by Pradeep Krishnamurthy, who debuted with Saithaan earlier this year, this film is a thriller, and is supposedly a remake of Telugu film Kshanam.

While the film’s official box office collections aren’t out yet, trade analysts say that through word-of-mouth, the film has had better occupancy at theatres compared on its opening day.

Richie marks Nivin Pauly’s first straight Tamil film, directed by debutant Gautham Ramachandran. The film has the Malayalam actor playing a local thug and the actor has dubbed for his character.

Nivin plays a local thug in Thoothukudi, who roams around like he owns the world. The film also revolves around an investigation and a few characters involved in it. Nivin’s character is also a part of that investigation.

Richie has Shraddha Srinath as the female lead and Lakshmi Priya and Raj Bharath in supporting roles.

The film released on December 8 is speculated to have topped the box office on its opening day.

However, after the weekend, the film has been shifted to number 2 at the box office in Chennai.
