From Deepika Padukone To Anushka Sharma, 5 Affordable Designer Labels Curated By Actresses

There’s a noteworthy scene in The Devil Wears Prada where Miranda Priestly (played by Meryl Streep) teaches her new employee Andy (Anne Hathaway) why fashion is more than just a bunch of “stuff” put together, especially after Andy scoffs at her colleagues breaking their heads over two “blue” belts.

Now, while Miranda Priestly takes her job seriously and throws shade at Andy’s sense of dressing, it’s impossible to be dressed well, in clothes that are something celebrities would wear, all the time. In India, high-end fashion labels are almost unaffordable, especially when they are designed by top headliners such as Sabyasachi Mukherjee, Manish Malhotra, Wendell Rodricks, Anita Dongre and Ritu Kumar. We’ve seen their fashion stores open in nearby malls, and watch row after row of elegant clothes stacked right, but more often than not, people back away the minute they chance upon the price tags.

Thankfully, there are some actresses out there who understand what the public at large is looking for and make clothes that are fashionable, trendy, and affordable. Here are some artistes who take their love for fashion just as seriously as their Bollywood careers.

All About You From Deepika Padukone

Summer dresses, winter wear, blouses with intricate designs, and kurtas that look comfortable – Deepika Padukone’s clothing brand, in association with Myntra, has everything for women who take ‘dressing up for the occasion’ quite seriously.

These clothes are available on Myntra’s website and app, and the actress herself models some of the creations.

Price Range: Rs 599 – Rs 4,799

Rheson by Sonam and Rhea Kapoor

Last year, Sonam Kapoor and her sister Rhea Kapoor, in association with Amazon.in and Shoppers Stop, launched their line of trendy clothes for women titled Rheson – a portmanteau of their names. Their clothes are breezy to wear, and put comfort first. With blouses, shrugs, cotton pants, palazzo saris and long dresses, Rheson incorporates 80s and 90s’ fashion, something Sonam is quite fond of. And, since she has already been labelled a fashion icon, a lot of the designs are inspired by her wardrobe. Plus, it’s likely that the ‘No Rheson I Can’t’ tees will give Salman Khan’s ‘Being Human’ t-shirts stiff competition.

Price Range: Rs 1,000 – Rs 5,000

Nush by Anushka Sharma

Apart from being an A-list actress in Bollywood and a producer who runs a company with her brother, Anushka Sharma is also a fashion designer. Having released her line Nush last year in October, Anushka’s clothes have widely been appreciated for being classy and not overpriced. She can frequently be seen on Instagram wearing her clothes and talking about why fashion means a lot to her.

While she did come under fire for allegedly plagiarising designs for Nush, it turns out she had nothing to do with the designing and procuring process and was only involved in advising the team on the styles that could go on the floor.

Her clothes are available on Myntra, Shoppers Stop and Nush.in

Price Range: Rs 699 – Rs 3,299
